Pináculo Viewpoint

It feels as though we are standing on a suspended balcony overlooking the turquoise-blue ocean, inviting us to immerse ourselves in its tranquillity.

Perched atop the Pináculo Viewpoint, we are afforded an unparalleled vista of Funchal Bay’s intricate layout, the urban expansion of this coastal city that reaches high into the hillside.

The colourful buildings contrast the rich green of the mountains and the fluffy, pure-white clouds that float overhead.

Boats pause in the harbour, their sails casting shadows on the glistening waters beneath as if taking a well-deserved respite from their aquatic journey.

Location and How to Get There

The viewpoint is located on Conde Carvalhal Street, in the São Gonçalo parish, at the eastern end of the municipality of Funchal.

To get there by car, our preferred mode of transportation, we suggest taking Avenida Santiago Menor until you reach Conde Carvalhal Street, then turning right to arrive at the viewpoint.

Tips

Please bear in mind that it can get hot during the day in Madeira, but it cools down at night. We advise wearing appropriate clothing for the time of day and taking advantage of a clear day without any fog.

Things to do nearby

The São Lourenço Palace, which began as a 16th-century fortress, boasts richly decorated salons with furniture, paintings, tapestries, and ancient weapons. The Military Museum is also located within the palace and is open to the public from Monday to Saturday.

The Monte Palace Garden is one of the most beautiful gardens on the island. We strolled through the garden, marvelling at the diversity and beauty of the flowers, and observed the lake with its ducks and swans.

The Jardim Botânico Cable Car connects the Botanical Garden to Monte, passing over the valley of Ribeira de João Gomes. It operates daily from 9:30 am to 5:45 pm (and until 6:15 pm during the summer).

The Lido Galomar Complex is a seaside paradise featuring a saltwater pool and direct access to the ocean.

The Reis Magos Beach is a blue gem in Caniço, a small pebble beach with crystal-clear water and awarded the Blue Flag.

The Caniço Church is a religious masterpiece that symbolizes the rich history of one of the oldest parishes in the region.
