Chapel

The exterior of the chapel presents a simple and solemn structure.

The church’s presence is announced in the parish’s centre by a tiny belfry with bells. An arched entryway opens to the sky above.

The interior decoration is essentially mannerist. The beautiful paintings on the altar depict the life of St. Peter Gonçalves Telmo, the patron saint of fishermen.

Looking inside, one can see the whitewashed walls and wooden ceiling of the nave contribute to a simple ambience.

The chancel is adorned with beautiful paintings. It depicts the saint of fishermen’s life (St. Peter González).

They give the church a special touch of antiquity and beauty. Several paintings are attributed to the artist Fernão Gomes (1548-1612).

His iconic portrait of the poet Luís Vaz de Camões is undoubtedly a cornerstone for any study of the cultural roots of this country during the Portuguese Renaissance.
