Located in the municipality of Santa Cruz, in the Caniço de Baixo region, lies the first tourist complex in the area, which includes three hotels and an internationally recognized diving centre.

The site is protected by the typical volcanic rocks of the local landscape and sheltered by the imposing mountains of the coast. From this privileged point, it is possible to contemplate a breathtaking view of the turquoise-blue sea and the endless horizon.

When to visit?

It is open all year round, but the best time to visit is between June and September. The warmer air brings a sense of renewal, and nature blooms. Then, we can make the most of the aquatic activities.

How to get there?

If you choose a rental car or a taxi from Funchal, you should follow the VR1 expressway towards Caniço de Baixo. Then, follow the signs until you reach the seaside resort. It takes around 20 minutes.

Opening Hours & Price

The resort operates from 9am to 6pm every day of the week, and the entrance fee is €7 per person per day (children up to 12 years old pay €3.5).

Amenitites and Features

The saltwater pool, replenished daily with seawater, features a children’s area where they can play safely and an area for adults.

The solarium is a spacious and comfortable area where we can lounge on the sunbeds and enjoy the Madeiran sun.

The complex also provides umbrellas to shield from excessive heat, but don’t forget your sunscreen.

The breathtaking view of the sea and volcanic rocks creates a stunning contrast of colours and shapes.

The free Wi-Fi allows for connectivity without additional costs, while the panoramic elevator, with its glass walls, provides a spectacular view of the surroundings as we ascend or descend. Upon exiting, the beauty of nature overwhelms us, and we feel the ocean breeze on our faces.

The elevator takes us down to Galo Beach, a pebble beach.

If you’re looking for a place to stay near the Galo Resort, you have three great options to choose from:

The Sentido Galomar is a four-star hotel right next to the complex. The rooms are comfortable and modern and offer stunning views of the ocean. This hotel also features a spa, a heated outdoor pool, a gym, and a restaurant.

The Hotel Alpino Atlântico is another four-star option, 200 meters from the complex. The rooms here are cosy and elegant, with private balconies and ocean views. The hotel also boasts an ayurvedic spa and a gourmet restaurant.

Finally, the Sentido Galosol is a four-star hotel 300 meters from the complex. It offers spacious rooms with private balconies with ocean views. We find a heated outdoor pool, a gym, a tennis court, and two restaurants.
