Ambience:

The charming and rustic space is full of tables, and there are many rooms and a place for kids with a playground and surveillance cameras. It’s a place for big parties like weddings, birthdays, graduations, and other life events.

Menu – Food

Limpets and bolo do caco were a great way to start our meal. The garlic butter with the bolo do caco was a perfect way to start our meal. The limpets were fresh and tasty.

Bolo do caco is a traditional Madeiran bread served hot, typically made with wheat flour, sweet potatoes and garlic.

The next dish was the regional espetada: beef, marinated and seasoned with herbs and spices, grilled over hot coals.

The meat was so tender that it almost melted in our mouths. All of the flavours and spices in the seasoning worked so well together.

It’s a dish that has been around for a long time, and once you try it, you’ll understand why.

The butter and tender pieces of meat brought out the flavour, and the fried corn was the perfect side dish.

The restaurant isn’t known for its desserts, but we liked the passion fruit flan. It was fluffy and light and had an aftertaste of fruit.

At the end of the meal, we were surprised by a Folklore performance, which included a traditional Madeiran dance.

We had talked about taking part in it. We didn’t, which was great for everyone in the room because nobody wanted to see people with two left dancing.

 Price:

On average, each person spent €34. Camara de Lobos has a high price, but Funchal is about the same. More than good enough for the feast that was served.

Service:

The server who attended to us was very attentive and provided excellent service. We greatly appreciated the cleanliness of the space and the amiability of the staff.

 Conclusion:

The food was truly exceptional, and the staff was helpful. We recommend trying the Madeiran espetada and bolo do caco at this restaurant.

Things to do near:

The Câmara de Lobos bay is a lovely day trip. Make a stop at Bar Filhos do Mar and try a traditional Madeiran drink called Poncha, often served with peanuts.

Cabo Girão Skywalk is the highest cape in Europe, standing at 589 meters high. Visitors are amazed by the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean from this nearly vertical headland.

Also, don’t miss the incredible Eira do Serrado Viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the small parish surrounded by majestic mountains.
