As Vides Restaurant

To taste the genuine regional Madeiran espetada, head to Estreito de Câmara de Lobos.

This is where the dish originated, and the use of the laurel wood skewer began, and the restaurant is still run by the family and considered a classic spot to try.

Opening Hours:

Nestled in the strait of Câmara de Lobos, it is a family-friendly space with traditional decor, perfect for those looking for a cosy hideaway surrounded by the traditional decor, which is increasingly rare in our modern era.

Menu – Restaurant Food

If you’re looking for a diverse menu, this isn’t the place for you, as everyone already knows what they’re going to order: the regional kebabs! Why change a classic?

We started with the traditional Bolo do Caco. It was so delicious that we couldn’t resist ordering a second round. Then we tried the loin meat skewer on a bay leaf skewer, served with chips, corn and salad.

The meat was tender and juicy, and the fried corn was exceptional. It was all washed down with a delicious homemade red wine.

It’s a winning combination!

The kebabs are still as great as always, and the portions are generous. So make sure you come hungry and ready for a culinary adventure.

For dessert, I highly recommend passion fruit pudding. It will change your mind about passion fruit if you don’t like it.

Price:

The average price paid by each person was 27 euros, which was a great deal given how much food we got. We were really, really full…

Service:

The staff are friendly, but the service took longer than anticipated. I’m sure it wasn’t done intentionally. There’s something that needs better planning. Typically, people don’t complain verbally, but by not returning.

Conclusion

It’s an excellent spot for those who appreciate good regional food. The restaurant’s signature dish, espetada, is definitely worth trying.

The portions are generous, and there is a lot of variety to choose from.

The service may take a bit longer than expected, but the taste makes up for it.

Things to do near:

Cabo Girão skywalk is just a short drive away on the João Gonçalves Zarco Highway. The striking views of the Atlantic Ocean from this headland have made it famous worldwide.

From Cabo Girão, we begin the Levada do Norte hike, two hours through the mountainous landscape, passing through forests, fields and villages.
