This viewpoint is located on the ER101, which connects Porto Moniz to Santa.

Porto Moniz is a municipality in the northern part of Madeira Island, a beautiful region with waterfalls and trails to be discovered amidst enchanting landscapes. It comprises the parishes of Porto Moniz, Ribeira da Janela, Achadas da Cruz, and Seixal.

This is the busiest municipality on the northern coast, with several cafes and restaurants and two sets of natural swimming pools that attract many visitors.

Originally the area was called Ponta do Tristão, as it marked the point of division between two captaincies, those of Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira. Later, it became a whaling centre, playing a crucial role in the local economy.
