Viola Restaurant

The restaurant delights in typical Madeiran cuisine. The ambience is cosy and rewards us with a fantastic view.

Even though it’s off the traditional tourist circuit of Madeira, it’s a restaurant where locals wait in line to eat.

It’s best to go early in summer because you might have to wait 45 minutes for a table.

With ample space and accessible parking, it attracts tourists and locals alike.

Menu – Food

Taberna is a place where the air is thick with the scent of roasting meats and spices, skewers (Madeira espetada) cooked to perfection over hot coals.

Fried corn, crisp and golden, is a perfect accompaniment, and the beef is top-notch, seasoned with just the right balance of garlic, bay leaf, and coarse salt.

But there’s more to this place than just meat; don’t miss the sweet and refreshing tangerine Poncha, and be sure to try the passion fruit pudding and cheesecake for dessert.

The waiter warmly welcomed us, giving us quick service. Carefully explained the nuances of each wine. Convince us to try their selection. It was delicious.

From the moment we were welcomed to the sad farewell, we felt surrounded by people who had a real passion for their job.
